This year, UD Science Olympiad took a step in the right direction. However, there is always room to improve. In addition to continuing last year’s work to organize the team, I have some ideas that specifically help the Earth and Space events. Right now, while there were tests to find more “qualified” people, all that was really tested was your knowledge of the wiki pages. Since the wiki pages themselves were printed out, the effort spent was wasted. Instead, people need to be tested on their overall understanding of the topic, which is the skill that is most useful. Since I already know what the Dynamic Planet and Remote Sensing tests are like, I have the experience to know what information needs and doesn’t need to be understood, improving the efficiency of our cheat sheets used at Cabrini. Using a variety of sources to compile a 3-4 page summary of an entire topic is not easy. I am willing to put in the effort to create them. Finally, I will make sure to find the people most passionate about Science Olympiad instead of considering factors unrelated to this club.

I have been a member of Science Olympiad for three years, and this year we improved greatly. I am becoming a candidate for this position because I believe I am the most qualified person for the job. Last year I participated in two Earth and Space events for Science Olympiad, and this year I would have participated in Dynamic Planted had there not been a time conflict with water quality. I took AP Environmental Science this year, and in that class we went over various information that is included within the Earth and Space category. This means I have a wealth of background knowledge of the events in Earth and Space. As I stated earlier, I believe the club was run nicely this year. However there was one major problem. There was not enough testing. If I am elected, I promise I will give multiple quizzes throughout the year instead of just one test at the end. This should make it easier for the officers to distinguish who are the best candidates for each event and make the team better overall.
